Hello!

Steven Schroeder is a dedicated broadcast journalist with two years of professional experience as the Good Morning Northland producer at WDIO in Duluth, Minnesota. With eight years of combined educational and hands-on experience, Steven discovered his passion for newscast producing while attending St. Cloud State University. There, he served as News Director for UTVS, the university’s fully student-run television station, gaining invaluable leadership and editorial experience. In 2022, he interned at KMSP FOX 9 in Eden Prairie, working alongside top producers in a major-market newsroom. Beyond producing, Steven is well-versed in all aspects of live broadcast production—including directing, technical directing, and audio operation. He has contributed to FOX 9+ broadcasts of SCSU D1 Men’s Hockey with Husky Productions and has done freelance production work for the Minnesota Timberwolves’ in-arena broadcasts.

My Story

Steven first fell in love with broadcast television when he joined his high school's broadcast journalism class called EaglEye in Apple Valley, Minnesota. He would spend three years in that program, alongside four years in Technical theater, where he was the main audio technician in his senior year. His two passions for broadcast TV and technical theater led him to choose to continue his education at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota, for its excellent, award-winning, and accredited broadcast journalism program. Steven got involved with UTVS on his first day of school. Throughout his time at UTVS, Steven was given the opportunity to anchor countless newscasts, create volunteer reporter packages, and run multiple production crew positions. Steven also helped lead a volunteer team to produce newscasts over the summer and would become News Director. Steven was a vital part of the UTVS team to produce newscasts during the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides his involvement with UTVS and Husky Productions, Steven was also an in-house production crew member for St. Cloud State University Athletics, where he was a camera operator, robocam operator, technical director, and in-game editor. His work from Husky Productions and Athletics would lead to him working with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he shaded cameras and was a camera operator for their in-house video crew. It is through his five-year involvement at St. Cloud State University that Steven fell in love with broadcast journalism. He would then continue that passion to be the Good Morning Northland producer for WDIO-TV in Duluth, Minnesota. As Steven continues his professional career, he is excited to meet new connections and continue to improve his broadcast journalism skillset.

When Steven is not busy in the newsroom, he loves to go on bike rides, listen to music, walk his dogs, and drive. He is also developing a desire to paddleboard and kayak across the beautiful 10,000 lakes Minnesota has to offer.
